Parsons Accounting & Tax Services traces its roots back to the 1960’s; we have always been a family business that proudly serves our community. The firm was founded in El Granada by William “Bill” Parsons. After serving in World War II, and working with the FBI and the IRS, Bill became an Enrolled Agent and established Parsons Accounting. The company served individuals and small businesses, including a number of coastal farms. Bill’s wife, Barbara, helped tremendously in the business, hand-copying tax returns using carbon paper.
Bill and Barbara had five children, but it was the youngest, John, who showed great interest in the family business. Bill encouraged John to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and John subsequently obtained his Accounting degree and worked several years for a national CPA firm in San Jose. In 1985, John joined Bill to form Parsons & Son.
In 1987, as John’s aspirations and business grew, he opened his own Half Moon Bay office at 240 Main Street. Bill Parsons would retire soon after in 1990. As the business continued to expand, John became aware of both his clients’ needs for comprehensive financial advice and his desire to provide such advice. With this awareness, John became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in 1995; this was the beginning of Parsons Financial Advisors.
Parsons Financial Advisors really began to flourish in 2004, when John obtained all his investment licenses and began offering extensive financial services including Life Planning, Investment Management, Estate Planning, Protection Planning, and more. The company has continued to grow and thrive behind John’s passion, enthusiasm, and commitment.
